Blood Type AB Diet – A certain diet or eating pattern is believed by a health professional to prevent diseases that are at risk for people with blood type AB. These diet rules also maintain the health of blood type AB as a whole.
However, not all diet methods give everyone the same results. Is it true that this diet is beneficial for blood type AB?
A naturopathic expert, Doctor Peter D’Adamo, said that each blood type has a vulnerability to certain health problems.
In his book Eat Right (for) Your Type, Doctor D’Adamo mentions special dietary rules for type AB blood type.
This eating pattern can help avoid the health problems that people with blood type AB tend to experience, as mentioned below.
1. Lower cholesterol
A study in the journal PloS One (2014) tried to determine the effect of a blood-type diet on health. From the results of the questionnaire analysis, the researchers suspected that the AB blood type diet could help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood.
This is because this diet method avoids consuming butter and recommends consuming white eggs and fish as sources of animal protein.
2. Maintain weight
In addition to adopting healthy eating rules, this blood-type diet encourages you to exercise regularly. A healthy diet that is done together with regular exercise can make the weight more manageable.
Even so, no research shows a blood-type diet is proven to reduce weight.
3. Prevent chronic disease
The blood type AB diet emphasizes eating whole foods rather than processed foods. Processed foods contain high levels of sugar, salt, and trans fats.
Excessive consumption of processed foods increases the risk of obesity, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. That is, adopting a diet specifically designed for blood type AB can suppress the disease.
How to Follow
People who have blood type AB are considered to have low stomach acid. Therefore, the right menu for the owner of the blood type AB diet is seafood, milk, tofu, and green vegetables.
In addition, there are several types of foods to avoid if you want to go on the AB blood-type diet. Among these are meats, including smoked meats and processed meats, caffeinated drinks, and alcoholic beverages.
According to Peter D’Adamo’s theory, one of the things that must be considered in carrying out the blood type diet is the lectin content in food. Foods that contain inappropriate lectins can cause negative effects when consumed, such as the clumping of red blood cells.
To maximize the desired weight loss, consume the following recommended foods: In addition, you should also avoid consuming processed foods or simple carbohydrates. Don’t forget to balance it with regular exercise every day.
1. Consumption of Meat
Owners of blood type AB have enough stomach acid to digest food and metabolize animal protein. Some foods to avoid are beef, chicken, and pork. Some types of meat that are good for blood type AB are lamb, rabbit, and turkey. Likewise, sea fish is also good for blood type AB.
AB blood types will have problems with chicken meat because this meat causes the emergence of autoimmune diseases in them. Therefore, the owner of the AB blood type should limit the consumption of chicken meat.
2. Dairy Products
Excess mucus is susceptible to people with blood type AB. That’s what makes them easy to experience respiratory problems, ear infections, or sinuses. Therefore, people with blood type AB should reduce dairy products such as butter, American cheese, whole milk, or parmesan cheese. Also avoid duck eggs, ice cream, and blue cheese. Meanwhile, some dairy products that are permissible and good for consumption by people with blood type AB are goat’s milk, cheese from goat’s milk, and yogurt.
3. Nuts and Seeds
AB blood types should avoid certain types of nuts and seeds, such as hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds. Several types of nuts and seeds, such as walnuts, peanuts, lentils, and soybeans, are good for those with blood type AB.
Almost all types of fruit are good for blood type AB. However, several types of fruit should be avoided. Fruits that should be avoided by people with blood type AB are mangoes, bananas, avocados, coconuts, star fruits, oranges, and guavas. We recommend that the owner of the AB blood type avoid citrus fruits because they can irritate the stomach. Meanwhile, good fruit to eat are cherries, grapes, kiwi, lemon, pineapple, watermelon, plums, cranberries, and grapefruit. Grapefruit should be consumed a lot because it contains alkali, which is good for digestive health.
Owners of blood type AB may eat all types of vegetables. There are only a few vegetables that are best avoided, namely corn, mushrooms, peppers, pickles, and radishes. Vegetables that should be avoided usually increase acid in the stomach.
Those are some ways to diet for blood type AB that you need to know. By consuming the foods above, the body will be healthier and your weight will be maintained properly.
Diet rules for blood type AB combine blood type A and blood type B diets. In general, this blood-type diet aims to meet most of the daily nutritional needs. In carrying out the diet, several recommendations and restrictions need attention.

Is an Effective?
Despite the claims of benefits mentioned by Doctor D’Adamo, various scientific studies have revealed the opposite results.
In a study from the Transfusion Medicine Review (2012), researchers examined data from more than a thousand studies.
Researchers are trying to find the positive effects of the blood type diet on health. However, there is not a single well-designed study looking at the health effects of the blood type diet.
The researchers concluded that there is currently no evidence that the blood type diet is beneficial to health. In fact, according to several other studies, the blood type AB diet method is poorly designed.
If you are still unsure about the benefits of the blood type diet, you better consult a nutritionist to find out the right diet.
